Arup's water team in Manchester seeks a professionally qualified civil engineer with leadership in hydraulic design and assessment, focusing on pipelines, surge/transient analysis, and related areas. You will work on UK and international projects, mentor junior engineers, and use specialist analysis software to deliver high-quality reports and designs.
Join a diverse, collaborative environment with opportunities for line management, digital tools, and a global client base across water utilities
Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
We work across the entire water cycle, with utilities, local and regional governments, commercial and domestic water users and other partners. From designing and maintaining key water infrastructure to advising on natural catchments and flood defenses, we help clients to consider the long-term economic, environmental and social dimensions of their proposals.
Our water team in Manchester is growing around a core team with expertise in major water utility and water pipeline projects. We are seeking a person with deep curiosity for the impact that water can have on people's lives; someone who is driven to help us protect others.
A professionally qualified civil engineer, you should be, or aspire to be, a subject matter expert in the design and assessment of complex hydraulic systems. For this role we need someone who has demonstrable experience of the leadership of hydraulic design and assessment; be it design of pipelines, surge/transient analysis, or a closely related area.
You might also be digital-savvy and have an interest in using digital tools to solve complex problems or eliminate repetitive tasks. You will have opportunities to help us with our projects in the UK and around the globe, working alongside specialists from other countries and continents, and to grow and develop our specialist service offering in Manchester. Lack of exciting and challenging projects should be your least concern.
Reporting to the Water Team Leader in Manchester, you will contribute to the growth of Arup's Water business in NW England.
