Job description

Are you an experienced engineer looking to support the Scottish Government’s national objectives, whilst enabling the movement of people, goods and services across the country?

To help us deliver our responsibilities we are seeking suitably qualified and experienced applicants to fill a number of senior grade civil and highways engineering posts in the Roads Directorate including roads, bridges, operations and asset management. Successful applicants will be allocated posts that most closely appear to match their skills and experience. These are exciting and challenging roles that make a real difference to the lives of people living in Scotland, now and in the future.

The Roads Directorate is responsible for carrying out the management, maintenance and operation of the Trunk Roads & Motorways in Scotland. The Directorate is brigaded into three sections that deliver the following functions:

  • Network Maintenance
  • Operations
  • Asset Management and Procurement

The Trunk Road network comprises of around 3,700 km of road and is the largest asset Scottish Ministers own (£30 billion net gross asset value). The network is hugely diverse, ranging from the ten-lane M8 in the centre of Glasgow to single carriageway sections in the west Highlands, so there are exciting roles to suit everyone.
