The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team. With a shared office space in our Stafford office and the ability to work remotely, we invite applications from across the region.

Amey Consulting provides design and other support services to Staffordshire County Council (SCC) and developers across the County through our Infrastructure+ contract with SCC. The team manages a large portfolio of work, ranging from detailed design of £1m+ projects to technical checking and site supervision on behalf of SCC. This role offers a unique opportunity to follow projects from inception to construction, developing your career in highway design and construction in a fast-paced, collaborative, and supportive team. This role requires strong experience in designing highways and infrastructure projects.

The Role

As a Senior Engineer, you will support your Design Team Leader on various highways schemes, lead projects, and mentor junior designers.

Responsibilities include:

• Leading a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant standards and client requirements.
• Preparing and checking designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation to meet quality, cost, and schedule criteria.
• Overseeing junior staff actions and taking responsibility for their work.
• Managing project budgets and costs to ensure commercial success.
• Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending meetings, and responding to queries.
• Contributing to bids and work-winning activities.
• Promoting health and safety practices within the team.

What You Will Bring

• Experience and expertise in highways/civil engineering, gained in an engineer or similar role.
• Knowledge of design processes and procedures relevant to civil engineering.
• Ability to produce or oversee the production of sound highway engineering solutions.
• Experience with health, safety, and welfare related project tasks, e.g., CDM Regulations.
• Initial professional development leading to Incorporated or Chartered status or equivalent.
• Commitment to achieving professional qualifications.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant subject or equivalent learning.
• Entech status is desirable, gained through a professional institution.
