Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is seeking a Civil Engineer to join the Networks and Drainage Design Team. You will develop drainage, water and wastewater design packages and support multi-disciplinary projects on site and in the office.

The role requires Chartered status or nearing it, strong knowledge of drainage/water/wastewater, and the ability to coordinate a design delivery team. Hybrid working with Belfast base.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Recently Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer or nearing Chartered status.
• Proven experience coordinating or managing a civil engineering design delivery team in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Strong knowledge in drainage, water and wastewater.

Responsibilities

• Produce drainage, water, wastewater infrastructure design packages.
• Assist design engineers on multi-disciplinary projects.
• Ensure CDM compliance and safety/environmental requirements.
• Manage schemes to deliver on time and budget.
• Prepare and present technical proposals and presentations of AtkinsRéalis' expertise.
• Supervise and develop junior team members.

It's'an exciting time to be working for our UK Water business with unprecedented investment in the water industry. Due to continued successes, we seek to recruit a Civil Engineer to join our Networks and Drainage Design Team in Belfast. We are looking for candidates who have relevant years of experience in the area with good analytical skills and a desire to learn.

We offer hybrid working which involves 3 days per week being office/site based. This position is based in our Belfast office.

Your role

• Producing drainage, water, wastewater infrastructure design packages.
• Assisting design engineers in developing design solutions on multi‑disciplinary projects.
• Compliance with the CDM Regulations and safety and environmental requirements.
• Project and design management of schemes, delivering projects to time and to budget.
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations to market AtkinsRéalis' expertise to wide variety of clients.
• Prepare financial and technical proposals for project opportunities.
• Supervision, management and technical development of junior members of the team.
• Co‑ordination with other disciplines working on the projects and site team.

About You

The ideal candidate would be a well‑rounded and versatile individual who exemplifies the following key skills and attributes:

• A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Recently Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer or candidates who are approaching Chartered status.
• Proven experience in coordinating or managing a civil engineering design delivery team for a design consultancy within a multi‑disciplinary environment.
• Requires strong knowledge in drainage, water, and wastewater.
• Takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions to design problems.
• Practical knowledge of current design codes and standards as well as industry best practices, including CDM regulations.
• Proficiency in applicable analytical software and related tools such as Causeway Flow, MicroDrainage and Civil3D.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Ability to work independently with minimal technical guidance.
• Demonstrates strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively within diverse multi‑disciplinary teams.
• A proactive, highly motivated mindset with a collaborative approach to drive teamwork and share success across projects.
