Job summary

Amey Consulting is seeking a Permanent Senior Civil Engineer to join our Highways team in Belfast. You will lead junior engineers in delivering highway and public transport projects, including cycleways and bridge work, with flexibility across the UK and Ireland.

The role offers hybrid working patterns and opportunities to grow within a multidisciplinary team. You’ll need a degree in civil/highways engineering, professional accreditation (Incorporated/Chartered) and a track record in highways;

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil/Highways engineering.
  • Incorporated or Chartered status or equivalent licence.
  • Experience leading junior engineers on highways projects.
  • Knowledge of design processes and applicable standards.
  • Experience with health, safety and welfare under CDM regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead scheme design delivery and support Design Team Leader on design duties.
  • Conduct surveys, feasibility studies, planning, cost estimation.
  • Produce design drawings, schedules and specifications.
  • Support development of Graduate Engineers and Technicians.
  • Ensure on-time delivery and maintain health and safety practices.
  • Liaise with clients and partners to ensure buildability and maintainability.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Civil Engineer to join our Consulting Highways Team. With office space in Belfast, our we invite applications from across the northern Ireland.

The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns. Our 130 strong Belfast Design Hub delivers a range of local, national and international projects for clients including Department for Infrastructure (DfI), Translink, National Highways, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and the Nation Transport Authority (NTA). Our multidisciplinary team encapsulates Highway Engineering, Bridge/Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, River & Coastal Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Traffic Engineering/Transport Planning, as well as being the BIM Centre of Excellence for Amey. What You Will Be Doing

Our Senior Engineers play an important part within Highways and Active Travel team. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will lead junior engineers in designing and delivering a variety of highway and public transport projects, including cycleways, greenways, junction improvements, highway drainage/SUDs, bus priority measures, pavement schemes, maintenance programs, and major roads or bridges. As part of our Belfast team, you’ll work on local projects and support initiatives in Ireland and the UK remotely.

  • Lead on the delivery of scheme design, as well as providing support to the Design Team Leader within the design team on various design duties including:
  • Surveys/Inspections
  • Feasibility and other technical reports
  • Planning, programming and cost estimation
  • Design production
  • Production of design schedules
  • Reviewing and amending design drawings
  • Production of Specifications
  • Supporting development of Graduate Engineers and Technicians
  • Work to programme to deliver specified designs on time
  • Drive effective health and safety practices within your team
  • Liaise with the Client and our Community partners to ensure solutions that are developed are suitable for buildability and maintainability

Prepare technical reports (e.g. Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports)

We Want To Hear From You If You Have
  • Developed experience and expertise within Highways/Civil engineering field, probably gained in an Engineer role or equivalent
  • Comprehensive knowledge of design processes and procedures relevant to the civil engineering discipline
  • An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound Highways engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
  • Experience in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Successful completion of the initial professional development leading to either Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence and to the level defined by their education
  • A demonstrable commitment to their plan of actions and key dates leading to successful completion of either the professional review or end point assessment, resulting in the award of Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning
  • IEng or CEng status is desirable, gained through the professional institution to which the individual is aligned
