Responsibilities

• Lead civil design activities and technical work packages.
• Develop designs, calculations, layouts, specs and documentation for water/wastewater projects.
• Design infrastructure including structures, drainage, pipelines and earthworks.
• Produce cost-effective, buildable solutions considering safety and whole-life costs.
• Review outputs for regulatory, company and industry standards compliance.
• Coordinate design with Process, Mechanical, EICA, Structural, Digital and Commissioning teams.
• Identify design risks and opportunities for optimisation throughout the project.
• Build relationships with clients, leads and suppliers; mentor junior staff.

Our client is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join its Engineering team on a permanent basis, with flexible and hybrid working available. The role will support the delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects, developing practical, sustainable and resilient civil engineering solutions for communities and the environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead civil design activities and technical work packages in line with agreed standards, budgets and programmes
• Develop civil engineering designs, calculations, layouts, specifications and technical documentation for water and wastewater projects
• Design infrastructure including reinforced concrete structures, buried structures, drainage systems, pipelines, earthworks, highways and site development works
• Produce cost-effective and buildable solutions that consider safety, sustainability, constructability, operational requirements and whole-life costs
• Review and assure civil design outputs, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory, company and industry standards
• Coordinate civil design activities with Process, Mechanical, EICA, Structural, Digital and Commissioning teams
• Identify and manage technical risks, design issues and opportunities for optimisation throughout the project lifecycle
• Build effective relationships with clients, discipline leads, project teams, suppliers and site teams
• Mentor junior engineers, graduates and apprentices, supporting technical development across the team

Job Requirements:

• Strong experience in civil engineering design within the water, wastewater, utilities or a similarly regulated engineering environment
• Experience producing and reviewing civil calculations, technical reports, specifications, drawings and design documentation
• Ability to develop practical, economic and buildable solutions that consider safety, sustainability, constructability and whole-life costExperience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and supporting successful project delivery
• Experience leading, checking or mentoring engineers within a civil engineering discipline
• Membership of a relevant professional institution, ideally Chartered or working towards Chartership
• Relevant Civil Engineering degree preferred, or an HND in a related discipline
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and commercially
• Full UK driving licence
