Job description

Are you an experienced Civil Engineer with a passion for delivering innovative engineering solutions in the energy sector?

My client is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Civil Engineer to join their growing electricity transmission and distribution design team. In this role, you’ll take the lead on the civil design of electricity substations across the UK, working from concept through to completion. You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams (electrical, structural, surveys, wayleaves, cables, environmental), as well as clients and stakeholders, to ensure projects are delivered on time, to budget, and to the highest standard.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the design frameworks for DNOs and contribute to major design-and-build projects across the UK.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading the production and review of drawings, calculations, specifications, and reports for masonry buildings, steel portal frames, transformer bunds, drainage systems, and roads, on projects ranging from £100K – £20M.
  • Collaborating with clients and colleagues to ensure effective project delivery, highlighting potential risks to programme, quality, or cost.
  • Attending client, contractor, and design team meetings to ensure smooth communication and the release of accurate information.
  • Managing design risks and delivering buildable solutions.
  • Providing practical engineering solutions to site-based challenges through the TQ/RFI process.
  • Mentoring junior engineers, offering technical guidance, and supporting professional development.
  • Taking ownership of your own continuous professional development in line with industry best practice and client needs.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in the civil/structural design of masonry buildings, steel portal frames, and reinforced concrete structures.
  • Strong client-facing experience, with the ability to build and manage relationships.
  • Ability to lead the delivery of multiple technical projects in a challenging environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical.
  • A degree in Civil Engineering (or a related subject).
  • Working toward Chartered or Incorporated status with a professional body such as ICE.

Desirable:

  • Experience within the electricity distribution sector, particularly substation design and electrical infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and Civils3D.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary
  • Car or car allowance
  • 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
  • Employer pension contribution
  • Sick pay
  • Personal wellbeing and volunteer days
  • Private medical insurance
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme (including counselling and legal advice)
  • Flexible benefits (dental insurance, gym memberships, travel insurance, tax-free bikes, Give As You Earn scheme)
  • Structured personal development programme
