Job Introduction

In Spring 2025, Brighton & Hove City Council will open a new Residential Home for children with disabilities called Rainbow Lodge. We are excited to offer the opportunity for you to work within this new setting.

Shortlisting and interviews happen on a frequent basis; please submit applications as soon as possible. This advert may be withdrawn if the vacancies are filled and headcount complete.

Do you enjoy working with children and young people with a range of disabilities? Do you want to make a difference in young people’s lives and support them to meet their full potential? If so, we want to hear from you!

Our Children’s Residential Care Workers care for up to 5 children with complex disabilities who live at Rainbow Lodge. You will be involved in every aspect of the young people’s care. You will work in partnership with the young people’s parents/carers, local special schools, social workers, and health colleagues to ensure that the young people experience the best care.

Due to the complexity of the young people’s disabilities, the work can be challenging at times, but also very rewarding. Do you have the resilience to work with children who have behaviours that challenge or complex health needs? Can you be flexible with your working hours? This role may include working weekends and overnight shifts.

As a worker at Rainbow Lodge, you will be part of the Specialist Community Disability Service (0 – 24), working alongside social workers and social work resource officers to provide children with disabilities and their families the support they need.

Children’s Residential Care Workers at Rainbow Lodge will be involved in the day-to-day care of children with disabilities, including undertaking personal care, promoting the children’s health, education, and relationships with their family and friends. You will ensure that their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social needs are met and provide them with opportunities for play, leisure, and learning.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who enjoy being part of a team and have experience working with disabled children with complex needs.

Application Process

Please read our Apply for a job at the council pages carefully. They provide guidance on completing your application and information on what will happen after submission and at the interview.

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and provide answers to some shortlisting questions. Your answers to these questions are crucial in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role outlined in the person specification.

Additional Information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
