Job summary

Birmingham Childrens Trust is seeking an experienced social work professional to chair Child Protection Conferences and lead safeguarding planning in Birmingham. You will engage families, coordinate with professionals, and ensure timely, quality Child Protection Plans using a strengths‑based, trauma‑informed approach.

You will mentor colleagues, uphold equality policies, and represent the safeguarding service in multi‑agency settings, with accountability for outcomes and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Recognised Social Work qualification.
• Registration with the HCPC is required.
• Substantial post‑qualifying managerial experience.
• Clear and up‑to‑date understanding of social work issues and research.
• Strong knowledge of the Strengths Based approach to conferencing (Strengthening Families Framework).
• Minimum of 2 years working directly with children and families in a safeguarding setting.

Responsibilities

• Chair Child Protection Conferences and other meetings within timescales using the Strengthening Families Framework.
• Ensure Child Protection Plans are created promptly for children deemed at risk, with a contingency plan.
• Distribute plans and minutes within timescales and notify families of planning and reviews.
• Ensure children's voices are heard throughout the conference and review process.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues to monitor progress and resolve practice issues.
• Provide advice and consultation on all aspects of child protection and thresholds.
• Mentor, coach and supervise colleagues as required.
