Concrete4Change (C4C) is an R&D company developing groundbreaking technology to utilise and permanently mineralise CO2 in concrete.

C4C has received numerous awards, including the UN Climate Challenge Cup at COP26 in Glasgow, the Royal Academy of Engineering, and UN SDG recognition. It is partly owned by two leading concrete manufacturers: Siam Cement Group and Goldbeck GmBH.

Job:

This position offers significant growth opportunities within a fast-expanding team. You will be part of the core management team, contributing directly to C4C’s milestones and growth (job title will be adjusted based on experience).

Roles & Responsibilities include:

  • PhD in Chemistry with 2+ years post-PhD or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Proven track record of initiative, high agency, and achievement.
  • Strong knowledge of fundamental chemistry principles, including reactions, thermodynamics, materials science, and spectroscopy.
  • Research skills: conducting literature reviews, staying updated on CO2 utilisation advancements, critical analysis, and synthesis of scientific literature.
  • Laboratory skills: proficiency in synthesis, characterization, testing of materials, and handling chemical samples.
  • Data analysis and interpretation: strong analytical skills for experimental data.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, hazardous materials handling, waste management, and regulatory standards.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and collaboration.
  • Organization and record-keeping: maintaining accurate records and detailed laboratory notebooks.
  • Adaptability and continuous learning in CO2 sorbent research.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualization software (useful but not mandatory).
  • Experience in characterisation methodologies for complex organic and inorganic systems, including polymers and adsorbents.
  • R&D experience in adsorption, adsorbent design, separation technologies, catalysts, surface chemistry, or polymer science.
  • Experience in computational chemistry and simulation of synthetic materials.
  • Knowledge of carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS).
  • Understanding of concrete and cement chemistry.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property management, including patents and licensing.
  • Self-starter capable of learning new technologies and contributing to synthesis and characterization methodologies.
  • Designing experiments, synthesizing and characterizing CO2 sorbent materials, and conducting sorption tests.
  • Data analysis, collaboration, safety compliance, documentation, and ongoing skill development.
  • Managing chemical laboratory operations in line with regulations.

Remuneration:

  • Basic Salary + Car Allowance: £36,000 - £48,500
  • Share options: 0.2-0.5%

Start date: Immediate, flexible based on notice period.

Hours: Full-time, flexible working hours.

Location: Concrete4Change Lab, Nottingham Region — full-time in-office work required, with commuting capability to Nottingham.
