Job Description

Job Title: Senior Chemical Process Engineer

Type: Full-Time / Hybrid

Location: Derby, Raynesway

We are looking for capable, experienced, and proactive individuals to join our growing team and be responsible for leading chemical process engineering packages. These are high-impact roles, ideal for experienced engineers who thrive on technical complexity, process rigour, and innovation with purpose.

This is an opportunity to use your deep experience in chemical engineering to contribute to the regeneration of the Raynesway Nuclear Licensed Site. This major infrastructure programme involves replacing current facilities with modern, state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities.

You will work across multiple projects and lifecycle stages to ensure that your areas meet engineering and project requirements. You will interact with various internal and external stakeholders and will be supported by a community of around 3,000 engineers in the Submarines business, with training and development opportunities to help you thrive.

The role is based in Derby with opportunities for hybrid working. While experience with nuclear facilities is advantageous, we invite applications from those interested in redeploying their capabilities in this new area. The key is having the right approach: working with and influencing engineers from other disciplines to make chemical engineering an integral part of the overall engineering solution.

Responsibilities:
  1. Act as 'Intelligent Customer' for chemical engineering aspects of design and construction, including process design, mass & energy balances, hazard studies, sizing, pressure, and flow calculations.
  2. Ensure principles of inherent safety, hierarchy of controls, and simplification are embedded into the design.
  3. Lead development of requirements and design options for chemical engineering packages.
  4. Provide assurance that requirements are incorporated into design and construction.
  5. Ensure chemical engineering work complies with engineering and project processes.
  6. Review and accept chemical engineering documentation and drawings from external supply chains.
  7. Contribute to engineering processes, plans, strategies, and safety/environmental documentation.
  8. Implement controls on chemical process engineering work internally and externally.
  9. Ensure proper commissioning and decommissioning of chemical process systems.
  10. Support the Engineering Manager in ensuring SQEP personnel perform chemical engineering work.
  11. Provide technical authority, mentorship, and review input for junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
Candidate Profile:

At Rolls-Royce, safety, integrity, simplicity, and making a difference are core principles. We seek candidates with:

  • A Chemical/Process Engineering degree or relevant discipline, with experience and capability considered.
  • Experience in design, construction, and operation of nuclear and/or conventional facilities, ideally within the UK.
  • Familiarity with Nuclear Site Licensing Conditions, SAPs, and TAGs is advantageous.
  • Experience with high hazard sites like COMAH.
  • Knowledge of process safety tools, modern control principles, and nuclear safety case production.
  • Familiarity with regulations, codes, standards.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered/Incorporated status.
