Job description

A start-up business in a very niche field of chemical development and manufacturing is currently looking for an experienced senior chemical/process engineer to join their team.


This person will grow with the business as they commercialise their unique offering to the chemical industry.


Starting with plant design and operation, you will be the first and primary employee, designing and building their brand new plant on their newly acquired premises in the Merseyside area.


Key responsibilities:
  1. Plant design and optimisation from scratch
  2. Process optimisation: Troubleshooting and optimising lab and pilot scale processes to ensure they meet cost, safety, and environmental standards.
  3. Experimentation: Designing and conducting experiments to identify optimal process conditions for scaling up the production.
  4. Project management: Acting as the main technical point of contact for external scale-up partners and managing the organisation of pilot and scale-up activities.
  5. Problem-solving: Collaborating with partners to troubleshoot manufacturing/piloting issues and identify technical solutions for optimal industrial production.
  6. Reporting: Compiling high-quality technical reports and presentations.

Using your experience in process development, you will ensure that products are brought to market efficiently, with optimal performance and safety standards.


Skills, experience and qualifications:
  1. A degree or Masters in Chemical Engineering - ESSENTIAL
  2. Process plant design and operation - ESSENTIAL
  3. CAD and control system experience - ESSENTIAL
  4. Reactor design
  5. Advanced oxidation processes
  6. Extensive knowledge and practical experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams to take products from the lab into pilot plant and full-scale manufacture within the chemical or pharmaceutical industries.
  7. Experience in the evaluation and scale-up of processes such as mixing, heat transfer, solids handling, solid/liquid separations, drying, and liquid/liquid separations.
  8. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to generate innovative solutions.
  9. Experience in executing capital projects including specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of process equipment.
  10. Experience in generating batch manufacturing records, including in-process testing requirements.
