The Post:

NHS Orkney seek a highly experienced Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to provide clinical and managerial leadership across Theatre and Day Surgery units.

NHS Orkney’s brand-new Theatre Unit provides over 2000 procedures annually and includes both elective and emergency surgical care across several clinical specialities including: General surgery, Ophthalmology, ENT, Max Fax, trauma & elective Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynae, Endoscopy, as well as damage control surgery and optimisation for onward transfer of patients to tertiary centres. The service is delivered across two theatres and a minor procedures room.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective governance of high-quality patient centred care across the department and responsible for a workforce of 21.71 WTEs.

This includes leadership and management of a 10-bed surgical Day Unit that provides recovery, outpatient antibiotics, immunological and blood transfusion therapies in addition to day surgery care.

The Candidate:

Will be a qualified Registered Nurse or ODP with a proven track record of leadership and management at band 6 or above.

Hold extensive knowledge skills and experience relating to peri-operative practice.

Have a working knowledge of workforce planning and management in line with national policies.

Experienced in quality, assurance and improvement methods to support evidence-based best practice.

Location, Working Pattern and Contract Duration:

This post will be based at The Balfour

The successful candidate will work: 37 hours per week which includes an on-call commitment (1 weekend per month and 2 nights per week)

This post is offered on a Full Time and Permanent Basis

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NHS Orkney.

The salary for this post is Band 7 £50,861 - £59,159 and if residing on Orkney, you’ll also receive a Distant Islands Allowance of £1,587 pro rata per year, adding extra value to your rewarding career with us.
