The Senior Charge Nurse role is to oversee the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care focused on improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families and carers.

Professionally accountable and responsible for the standards and delivery of nursing care within their area of management.

Responsible for standards of cleanliness and safety in their own clinical area Joint named budget holder and authorised signatory for financial resources.

Responsible for the information governance on his/her Ward/Department and the completeness of data.

As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, ensure appropriate discussion with other members of the team to optimise patient care

To have local open and transparent communication channels that support the ward team to do the right thing for the people we care for, to be bold when they have good ideas and to speak up when things go wrong.

Provide visible leadership and line management for a team of nursing and support staff.

Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical area.
