Job summary

Microtech Global Ltd. is seeking a Senior Characterization Engineer in Bristol for a hybrid role with office focus Monday-Thursday and remote Fridays. You will lead bench and PVT characterization for next-generation high-speed optical and electrical semiconductor products, collaborating with global teams.

The role combines hands-on testing, data analysis, test automation, and reporting, with mentoring and continuous improvements in characterization processes and AI-enabled workflows.

Qualifications

• BEng/MEng in Electronic Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 510 years' relevant industry experience.
• Strong experience with high-speed analogue semiconductor products and signal integrity testing.
• Hands-on experience developing Python-based test automation.
• Strong understanding of high-speed/high-frequency PCB design principles.
• Experience working in a laboratory with advanced electronic test equipment.
• Strong experience analyzing large datasets for performance trends.
• Excellent debugging, troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and lead technical projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead characterization activities for new product introductions (NPI), including test planning, equipment selection, hardware preparation and fixture development.
• Develop and bring up robust, repeatable automated test environments.
• Develop Python-based test automation and automated measurement methods.
• Perform hands-on characterization using advanced electronic test equipment.
• Analyse large and complex datasets to identify performance trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Investigate and troubleshoot complex hardware and signal integrity issues.
• Produce detailed technical reports and present findings to cross-functional teams.
• Support improvements to characterization processes, automation and test methodologies.
• Contribute to signal integrity improvements and advanced test solutions.
• Explore and implement AI-based tools to improve workflows and productivity.
• Mentor junior engineers and share expertise across the team.
• Stay current with emerging high-speed technologies and test equipment.
