Senior Certification Expert - Sustainable Fuels

Your Role
As Senior Certification Expert - Sustainable Fuels, you will drive a just and sustainable energy transition in hard-to-abate transport sectors such as aviation and shipping, by contributing to the development and improvement of the RSB certification system globally, as part of the Sustainability Foundations team. You will report to the Standards & Certifications Director and work closely with the Sustainability Foundations and RSB Secretariat teams.
You will be responsible for these main areas of work:
Work Area: RSB certification
- Ownership of the Sustainable Fuels certification product (encompassing Sustainable Aviation Fuels as well as Sustainable Maritime Fuels), including:
- Define and own the sustainable fuels certification product strategy and lifecycle - Develop and manage the roadmap for sustainable fuels certification programmes, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, customer needs, voluntary markets and regulatory requirements
- Ensure RSB Standards remain relevant - Maintain and update RSB Standards, requirements and tools for Sustainable Fuels to ensure they are up to date and market relevant and continuously improved (in collaboration with the RSB Standards Manager)
- Drive certification market development - Implementing activities to grow the adoption of RSB certification for Sustainable Fuels, in line with the broader RSB certification strategy
- Engaging stakeholders - Build partnerships and collaborate with third parties across aviation and maritime sectors to promote and expand recognition for RSB certification
- Provide subject matter expertise - Act as the technical knowledge expert on sustainable fuels (including Sustainable Aviation and Marine Fuels, CORISA, IMO, EU RED) and provide expert input across the RSB team
Work Area: Aviation and Maritime Policy Engagement
- Represent RSB as observer at relevant ICAO meetings and IMO meetings
- IMO and ICAO Standards: Track policy-related work and updates
- RSB stakeholder platforms: Build trust and awareness of RSB certification through RSB's SAF Policy Platform (lead) and RSB's SMF Platform (co-lead)
Work Area: RSB Programmes and Advisory Services
Capacity-building
- Lead technical capacity-building activities as required by Grants and Advisory Service projects, including updating content maps and slide decks
- Deliver technical presentations about RSB certification for sustainable aviation and marine fuels
- Develop tools and guidance documents to support access to RSB certification for farmers and other supply chain actors
- Lead the maintenance and updates of RSB Academy's RSB Sustainability Certification course content
Certification-related tasks in projects
- Develop certification gap analysis, guidance and audit documents and other materials as required by international or European-funded projects
- Deliver on other project tasks related to the development, improvement and maintenance of the RSB sustainability certification system, ensuring well-planned and timely delivery
Requirements
Required - Education, experience, and qualifications
- 5-8 years of professional experience in the sustainable biofuels, bioenergy and/or biomaterials sector, with demonstrated experience in sustainable aviation fuels certification
- In-depth technical knowledge about sustainable aviation fuels, EU and international policies including the EU Renewable Energy Directive (EU RED) and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), as well as a solid understanding of certification and accreditation systems and processes (ISO Standards, Chain of Custody and sustainability certification, etc.)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and ability to interact with companies, certification bodies, non-profit agencies, and experts worldwide to foster partnerships and market uptake of RSB certification
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Valid work permit for Spain, Germany or the United Kingdom
- Willingness to travel as required by the role
