Job Description: Senior Caretaker

Location:Hornchurch High School

Hours:36 hours per week

Full Time (52 weeks)

Responsible to: School Business Leader

Salary:Scale 5 (12-15) depending on experience and qualifications

Role Overview: We are seeking a reliable and committed Senior Caretaker to join our school team. Reporting to the School Business Leader, you will take a lead role in ensuring the school environment is safe, clean, and well-maintained. This role requires strong practical skills combined with good administrative abilities to manage daily tasks, coordinate minor repairs, keep meticulous records and support site operations efficiently. You will work closely with staff and contractors to uphold health and safety standards and contribute to creating a welcoming and secure environment for students and staff alike.

The ideal candidate will be adaptable and ready to respond promptly to changing priorities and unexpected situations, maintaining flexibility to support the smooth running of the school at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To maintain the school site, including site security.
  • To monitor the school's maintenance arrangements, including cleaning, grounds and repairs and carrying out cleaning/repair functions as required.
  • To monitor the PPM and compliance across the site, keeping accurate records.
  • Facilities management, which may include lettings (weekday & weekends) and extended school use.
  • The supervision of cleaning and grounds maintenance services.
  • The management and supervision of first line and emergency maintenance and repairs.
  • The management of external contractors, access and ensuring safe working practices.
  • The management and supervision of a team of Caretakers.
