Manuella Care is seeking a dedicated Senior Care Worker to join our care team. You will safeguard dignity, independence, and comfort for service users while following care plans and collaborating with professionals.

You will lead shifts, train junior staff, monitor wellbeing, and liaise with families to provide timely updates. The role requires empathy, reliability, and a calm approach in a high-quality care setting.

Qualifications

  • Experience or understanding of care provision.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience.
  • Female only due to client preference.
  • NVQ Level 2 in care or working towards QCF Diploma is required.

Job description

The Senior Care Worker will work alongside the care team to ensure the safety, dignity, and independence of service users while providing emotional and practical support. Care provided by the senior care worker must align with an agreed care plan, maintain a high standard of professionalism and include care that would reasonably be given by members of the service user's own family and is not expected to involve tasks that would normally be expected to be undertaken by a trained nurse.

Hours: Full time only, 12 hour / 6 hour / 4 hour shifts, including weekends
Principal Responsibilities:
  • Routinely oversees and monitors care workers and home carers
  • Takes responsibility for the shift and for the service while on duty
  • Responds to emergencies and provides guidance and support to care workers
  • Assists and enables service users to dress, undress, wash, use the toilet and bathe Serves meals to service users at table or in bed, assists with feeding if required
  • Generally assists with service users overall comfort and well being
  • Undertakes light cleaning and domestic duties including meal preparation as required
  • Monitors service users conditions by taking temperature, pulse, respiration and weight and contributes to record keeping
  • Liaises with professional staff in carrying out care plans etc
  • Keep families up to date about their relative's progress
  • Train and mentor new staff
  • Help with daily activities such as letter writing, paying bills and collecting benefits
  • To assist service users who need help with any self care task such as getting up in the morning, dressing, undressing, washing, bathing and the toilet
  • To assist service needing peg feed, cough assist, sleep system
  • To help service users with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence and help in the use and care of aids and personal equipment
  • To care for service users who are temporarily sick and needing, for example, minor dressings, bed nursing, help with feeding, etc
  • Assist with continence management and catheter / stoma care where necessary
  • Assist with the administration of medication as per guidelines
  • To help care for service users who are at the end of life
  • To assist service users who need oxygen and CPAP machine
  • Assist service users with complex mental health needs and challenging behaviors, sensory overload ensuring their emotional and physical well-being.
  • To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of service users through talking to them, taking them out, assisting them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreation
  • To make and change beds; tidy rooms; do light cleaning and empty commodes
  • To inspect, launder and mend service users' clothing
  • To set tables and trays; serve meals; feed service users who need help; prepare light meals and wa up; tidy and clear the dining area
  • To assist Service users with moving and handling using equipment recommended by OT
  • To read and write reports of tasks undertaken and outcomes achieved
  • Work within a high-risk care setting, ensuring that all safety procedures and safeguarding measures are strictly followed
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals, including social workers, nurses, and therapists, to implement effective care plans
  • To take part in staff and service users' meetings and in training activities as directed
  • To comply with the agency's guidelines and policies related to safeguarding, mental health crisis intervention and incident reporting
  • To report to the agency manager any significant changes in the health or circumstances of a service user
  • Maintain clear and accurate records, including incident reports and behavioral support documentation
  • To encourage service users to remain as independent as possible

Person Specification - Essential Criteria:

The following personal attributes are considered essential to the post of care worker: Experience or understanding of care provision.

  • To attend appropriate training courses
  • To adhere to all company policies, procedures and systems
  • To attend all rostered Service User calls to permanently assigned Service Users
  • To be able to understand and cope with emergency situations
  • To be able to liaise effectively with office staff, Social Workers and Service User family members
  • To be able to maintain high standards of care provision

  • Respect the confidentiality of all matters that they might learn in the course of their employment
  • Respect the requirements under the Data Protection Act 1998
  • Ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Work within any other legislation that may be in force from time to time
