A specialized care facility in York is seeking a Senior Care Assistant to support the nursing team in implementing care plans and maintaining high standards of care. The role involves coordinating shift activities, supervising junior staff, and working closely with healthcare professionals. Ideal candidates will have previous care assistant experience and good interpersonal skills.
As a Senior Care Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the nursing team by helping to implement care plans and ensuring high standards of care for all service users. While the nursing team leads the development of Care Plans in line with best practice (e.g. NICE guidelines) for service users requiring nursing care, youll be responsible for ensuring these plans are effectively implemented. You will work closely with the ward manager, nursing team and other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth running of the service.
Youll be actively involved in coordinating daily shift activities, supervising junior colleagues, and ensuring that all assigned tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard. Additionally, youll take the lead in creating and maintaining care plans for service users who do not require nursing input.

Schoen Clinic York is a highly specialised Hospital for adults in the North of England. We are currently based on the ground floor of Minster Grange as an eating disorder hospital, and in September 2024 we expanded to cover the full building with other service lines including Dementia care and Discharge to Assess. We are situated just off Haxby Road which is 10 minutes drive from York Train Station and 4 miles from the A64.
Clinical
Undertake regular physical observations of service users as required.
Provide leadership to and work alongside Care Assistants onshift to ensure the best outcomes for service users including mealtimes, personalcare, attending appointments.
Undertake clinical tasks, for which training has been provided,and competence assessed.
Report any issue of concern to Nurses where this is appropriateto do so.
Work within the Health and Safety policies in accordance withSchoen Clinic York guidelines.
Demonstrate awareness of safeguarding principles in all dealingswith patient and their families where appropriate.
Ordering of and administration of medication.
Represent York in a professional manner, when interacting withfamilies and visiting professionals.
Support
Act as role model for CA peers, demonstrating professional approachto duties with service users.
Provide support to the Nurses if required to assist in leading ashift.
Provide support and advice to CA colleagues.
Contribute to MDT meetings by providing feedback when required.
Administrative
Be responsible for ensuring documentation e.g. observationsheets, notes, charts are accurately completed and filed; andactions taken if needed.
Be responsible for reading, understanding and complying with allrelevant York and statutory policies and procedures;
Assist in recruitment and induction of new members of the care team.
