Job description

Four week rota working every other weekend, with a salary of £14.40 per hour and 18 hours per week. This includes 1 x 12-hour shift (7am - 7pm) and 1 x 6 hour shift (7-1 or 1-7), with the opportunity to pick up additional shifts covering for colleagues' holidays and sickness.

The successful candidate needs to have an NVQ or equivalent qualification and experience.

Purpose of position
  • Promote a caring environment for the residents through high standards of practice which meets their physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs.
  • Ensure each resident receives the appropriate care as detailed in their individual care plans.
  • Support the management in the implementing of the ‘Essential Standards of Quality and Safety for Adults’ published in accordance with the Care Quality Commission.
  • Develop a good working relationship with managers and be involved in staff training and development.
  • Take charge of a shift, in the absence of the Deputy Manager and Manager.
Qualifications
  • NVQ level 2 and expected to work towards level 3.
  • A minimum of 12 months experience working within the care field, with general understanding of health and safety at work, principles and practice of care of the elderly, and some understanding of supervising of staff.
  • Hold or be working towards all mandatory training courses.

Key Tasks
  • Provide, oversee, supervise and monitor the daily routine to ensure consistent high standard of resident care is achieved.
  • Be in charge as required and organise the workload and supervise the staff.
  • Develop good working relationship with the Management team.
  • Communicate effectively between Managers and care staff, both written and verbally.
  • Contribute and adhere to development of individual residents care plans.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Promote a friendly, homely atmosphere at all times.
  • Ensure that the Deputy Manager or Manager is informed of any problems or developments regarding staff and residents.
  • Assist Residents with their activities of daily living.
  • Greet and welcome visitors to the home, and answer the telephone and screen calls as required.
  • Adopt a positive pleasant attitude, an approachable manner, and ensure residents, relatives and visitors needs are attended to.
  • Uphold key principles of residents rights, citizenship, independence, choice, privacy, fulfilment and dignity.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion in communicating personable matters to Senior and other members of staff, and other residents.
  • Supervise staff on shift and ensure high standards of care are achieved and staff follow procedure and are safe whilst at work.
  • Accompany health care professionals to residents rooms, providing a full report to the person in charge and completing relevant documents if required.
  • Be accountable for undertaking specific responsibilities as directed by the Manager and Deputy Manager.
  • Undertake appropriate training, as directed by the Manager.
  • Carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Manager and Deputy Manager.

Must be able to commute to the home via in under 30 minutes - can't always rely on public transport due to Sunday buses not being at right times.
