Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION: SENIOR CARE ASSISTANT

Responsible to: Assistant/Deputy/Manager/Proprietor

Purpose of Position
  1. To lead other staff members to provide individual care to each resident, maintaining their dignity and individuality.
  2. To ensure a happy and caring atmosphere within the home and participate in general activities.
  3. To deputise for the manager or deputy in their absence and handle specific responsibilities within the home.
Main Responsibilities
  1. Assist residents with washing, toileting, dressing, and undressing.
  2. Support residents with limited mobility or disabilities, utilizing aids effectively.
  3. Assist with incontinence care, ensuring comfort and dignity.
  4. Care for residents who are temporarily unwell.
  5. Support residents who are nearing end of life.
  6. Encourage residents' stimulation through conversation and activities.
  7. Respond promptly to emergency buzzers, door, and telephone calls.
  8. Welcome visitors, offer refreshments, and provide assistance as needed.
  9. Participate in staff and residents meetings and attend training sessions.
  10. Make and change beds, tidy rooms, perform light cleaning, and empty commodes.
  11. Assist residents with meals, including serving and washing up, and prepare light meals.
  12. Implement the key worker system.
  13. Observe health and safety policies and report any issues.
  14. Follow fire safety procedures.
  15. Support care plan development and review on a monthly basis.
  16. Promote staff development and assist with training needs.
  17. Maintain and administer medication following proper procedures and ensuring safe storage.
  18. Provide shift handovers with up-to-date documentation.
  19. Report incidents and occurrences to management promptly.
  20. Coordinate with external agencies and healthcare professionals, reporting instructions and completing documentation.
