Economic capital is increasingly important at AIG for capital and risk management, budgeting, strategy, and pricing. It guides risk-return trade-offs and supports risk-aware decisions aligned with corporate objectives.

Role overview

This position offers an excellent opportunity to work on capital model calibration for Insurance Risk, supporting team operations and stakeholder needs. Key risk areas include Non-Cat Reserve Risk, Premium Risk, and Man-Made Cat Risk, contributing to AIG’s Group and Legal Entity capital models. The role aims to enhance understanding of volatility and risk quantification within the business.

The role involves collaboration with Actuarial, Underwriting, ERM, and Finance teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Quantifying Reserve and Premium Risks for Property Casualty insurance, including mathematical methodologies and practical measurement.
  • Reviewing scenario models for Man-Made Cat Risk from underwriting teams and third-party vendors.
  • Developing and maintaining in-house models for risk measurement.
  • Establishing standards for modelling across AIG’s capital models, including Solvency II compliance.
  • Communicating analysis frameworks and results to internal and external audiences.
  • Documenting and testing methods and analyses.
  • Responding to ad-hoc business requests related to risk and capital analysis.
  • Coaching and managing junior staff, including regular reviews of their work.

Qualifications needed:

  • Qualified Actuary, MSc in a quantitative field, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years in general insurance.
  • Experience in capital modelling is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of various lines of business and their risks.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R, Python, or Matlab.
  • Experience with WTW Igloo for capital modelling is a plus.
