An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the North Central London CAMHS Home Treatment Team (NCL HTT) as a Senior Mental Health Practitioner. This role is suitable for someone passionate about providing high-quality mental health care to support young people and their families in times of crisis. Candidates should have established, accredited skills post-registration and be adaptable to crisis situations. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and need to be skilled in multi-agency working.

The NCL Home Treatment Team is a new service delivering coordinated care to young people aged 13 to 18 in mental health crisis across the London Boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, and Islington. The service provides 12 weeks of intensive, evidence-based support to prevent admission or facilitate early discharge from Tier 4 inpatient units. The team collaborates closely with CAMHS Assertive Outreach Teams, Tier 4 inpatient units, local authorities, and emergency services. The post holder will work shifts covering service hours – 09:00-20:00 weekdays and 12:00-20:00 weekends. The primary role involves providing therapeutic assessments and brief interventions to children, young people, and their families referred to the service.

Main duties of the job

• Deliver flexible, high-frequency, evidence-based crisis interventions such as mental health and risk assessments, safety planning, and problem solving in a collaborative manner.
• Provide a clear, evidence-based clinical perspective within the multi-disciplinary team and to referring agencies and external professionals.
• Offer clinical consultation and liaison when appropriate, establishing working clinical formulations through regular MDT discussions.
• Contribute to a service specializing in care and treatment of children and young people with complex mental health issues requiring crisis response and safe stabilization in the community.
• Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate specialist child mental health interventions across various care provisions to meet individual and family needs requiring intensive Home Treatment support.
• Focus on providing evidence-based psychological interventions to young people suffering from serious mental illnesses, via various venues.
• Conduct specialist assessments, evaluate results, and offer therapeutic interventions based on clinical needs.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/TRAINING

• • RMN / RN (Mental Health) with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience.
  • ENB 998 or equivalent; Evidence of CPD.
  • ENB 603; RMN 1st level with NMC; Dip SW, RN (Mental Health), or Social Worker qualification.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

• • Working with young people and families or mental health patients in acute/crisis settings.
  • Managing complex mental health needs, challenging behaviors, high risk, and self-harm.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary teams and understanding of Home Treatment Teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Clinical skills including assessments, care planning, medication administration, and risk management.
  • Working knowledge of mental health legislation and safeguarding policies.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY

• • Strong communication skills, including handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team.
