Job summary

MCS Group is helping an established technology business in Stevenage recruit a Senior Software Developer (C++) to own backend software from design through implementation. You will work on high-performance Linux-based systems, shaping architecture and engineering practices, while mentoring juniors.

The role offers hybrid working (2 days in the Stevenage office), a salary between £55,000 and £65,000 plus a bonus and excellent benefits, including private healthcare and a strong learning culture.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience with modern C++.
• Solid object-oriented design and software engineering principles.
• Experience delivering software through the full development lifecycle.
• Experience working within Linux environments.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical decisions.
• Willingness to mentor others and collaborate with the team.

Responsibilities

• Designing and developing backend software using modern C++.
• Building new functionality from concept through to delivery.
• Working on high-performance, low-level software running on Linux.
• Contributing to architecture and technical design discussions.
• Mentoring and supporting junior software engineers.
• Improving software quality, performance and maintainability.
• Supporting CI/CD pipelines and development tooling.
• Working closely with Product, QA and Engineering to deliver robust solutions.
