Reports to: Planning & Materials Purchasing Lead

In this role, the Senior Buyer is responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement and delivery of materials, supporting the production team in meeting customer commitments, while maintaining optimal inventory levels and fostering productive supplier relationships.

Key Accountabilities

Procurement and Material Management

1. Place and expedite orders for assigned commodity ranges to ensure cost efficiency and timely delivery.
2. Monitor supplier inventory levels and address any anomalies proactively.
3. Maintain and update the ERP system item master for purchasing and planning-related fields.

Delivery and Performance Monitoring

1. Ensure the on-time delivery of materials to production to support customer order fulfilment.
2. Continuously work to reduce supply chain lead times and enhance operational efficiency.

Supplier Relations

1. Develop and sustain productive working relationships with suppliers, maintaining a professional image aligned with company values.

Training and Development

1. Actively enhance skills and technical knowledge through on-the-job and external training opportunities for yourself and the team.
2. Communicate effectively across departments to meet customer service standards and business objectives.
3. Coach and mentor junior team members, fostering professional growth and skill development.
4. Serve as the first point of escalation for issues related to material purchases, ensuring timely resolution and maintaining operational continuity.

What We're Looking For

1. GCSE Maths and English is essential.
2. Minimum of 3 A Levels grade C or above, or equivalent qualifications.
3. Substantial experience in procurement within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
5. A self-motivated approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
6. A proactive approach to identifying and resolving supply chain issues, such as shortages or overstocking.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with suppliers, production teams, and stakeholders.
