Job summary

Siemens Energy is looking for a Senior Buyer in Manchester/Newcastle to support large EPC projects within the Grid Technologies division. You will partner with project teams, manage supplier performance, and align procurement strategies with project timelines, budgets and quality standards.

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the role requires strong negotiation skills, cross-functional collaboration, and travel to supplier sites as needed within a dynamic project environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of procurement experience, esp. large-scale EPC/infrastructure
• Ability to define and execute sourcing strategies
• Strong understanding of commercial terms and supplier contracts
• Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration
• Willingness to travel 10–15% to suppliers/projects sites

Responsibilities

• Act as procurement partner for site infrastructure on large EPC high voltage substation projects
• Ensure procurement processes are executed during bid and execution phases
• Prepare and manage RFQs, including price and terms negotiations
• Define sourcing and supplier strategies aligned with project goals
• Identify and manage supplier risks to reduce non-conformance costs
• Drive procurement excellence and improvements across the function

Job description

A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Senior Buyer at Siemens Energy within the Grid Technologies division, you will play a pivotal role in supporting large investment Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will engage proactively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including suppliers, project management teams, and errection and installation teams. Your day will involve prioritising procurement activities based on project needs, attending project update meetings to ensure alignment with delivery milestones, and managing supplier performance to meet contractual obligations. In this dynamic environment, you will tackle challenges related to site infrastructure and daily operations, ensuring that procurement strategies are effectively executed to align with project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

How You'll Make an Impact

• Act as the procurement partner for site infrastructure on large EPC high voltage substation projects.
• Ensure procurement processes are effectively implemented during both bid and execution phases.
• Prepare, action, and manage requests for quotations, including negotiating pricing and commercial terms.
• Define sourcing and supplier strategies for assigned commodities, ensuring alignment with project goals.
• Proactively identify and manage supplier-related risks to mitigate non-conformance costs.
• Foster a high-performance culture by participating in and driving improvement initiatives across the procurement function.
• Manage the strategic relationships with key framework partners.

What You Bring

• A high-performance mindset with over 5 years of experience in procurement, particularly in large-scale EPC or infrastructure projects.
• CIPS Level 4 qualification (or equivalent); Level 5 or working towards MCIPS is desirable.
• Proven ability to define and execute effective sourcing strategies.
• Strong understanding of commercial terms and risks, with experience in reviewing, negotiating, and drafting supplier contracts.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel to suppliers and project sites (estimated travel 10-15%).
