Our client, based in South Cambridgeshire, is looking for a Senior Buyer to join their growing team.

Job Description

The Senior Buyer will be commercially driven and highly organised, with a strong track record in purchasing hardware products, including sourcing from Asia, and a minimum of 5 years’ experience running an MRP/ERP system.

The Senior Buyer will be instrumental in managing our client’s purchasing processes, supplier relationships, and ensuring stock availability across a wide range of products. A critical part of the role is managing and developing our client’s Sage/Sicon MRP system drive supply chain efficiency, accurate forecasting, and stock control.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage and optimise our client’s procurement processes
  • Lead and manage all purchasing activity across the business
  • Manage the company’s MRP system (Sage/Sicon) to optimise stock management, forecasting, and procurement planning
  • Develop purchasing strategies to meet business needs and commercial targets
  • Source and procure hardware products from UK and international suppliers — with extensive overseas sourcing in Asia
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and supplier terms to drive best value
  • Travel to meet with suppliers and manufacturers in Asia as required
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance, ensuring quality and delivery standards are maintained
  • Collaborate with sales, and finance teams to ensure alignment across departments
  • Analyse market trends, pricing, and currency impacts
  • Maintain accurate purchasing data, stock records, and reporting
  • Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes and supply chain operations
  • Evaluate supplier performance and ensure compliance with contracts and agreements
  • Identify and implement procurement process improvements and cost-saving initiatives
  • Hands-on role with one other member of staff reporting to you.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Senior Buyer or Purchasing Manager role
  • Extensive experience running and managing an MRP system — Sage/Sicon MRP experience is a distinct advantage
  • Proven background in international purchasing, including sourcing from Asia
  • Strong negotiation skills and commercial acumen
  • Experience within the hardware, manufacturing, or construction products sector preferred
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Confident in data analysis and reporting using MRP systems
  • Strong supplier relationship management and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel internationally when required
  • CIPS qualification (or working towards) would be advantageous
