Job description

Senior Business Intelligence Engineer, JP Retail Science

The JP Retail Science team is looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to lead the development of scalable analytics for deal recommendation. In this role, you will architect and implement robust BI frameworks and automated reporting platforms that enable our account managers to deliver transformative insights and shape vendor strategy across Japan and worldwide.

Deals and promotion is one of the key tool to help vendors grow their business on Amazon. We want to leverage data, analytics and science to evaluate promotion scenarios, ROI and help vendors find the best promotion that fit their needs. You will collaborate closely with our scientists and our product counterparts to innovate and develop novel analytics approaches.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in BI implementation with strong business acumen and stakeholder management skills. Experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale BI solutions, building automated reporting frameworks, and leading technical roadmaps is essential. This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging projects at the intersection of technology and business strategy, directly impacting Amazon's largest vendor partnerships through data-driven insights. You will help define the future of our analytics capabilities while enabling our consulting teams to deliver distinctive results that "only Amazon" can provide.

You will work within an international team of scientists and engineers, all based in Tokyo, Japan. We are a team that thrives on growth, both personal and professional. Engage in academic collaborations, spark innovation in hackathons, and expand your horizons with conference visits.

A day in the life
The BIE is accountable for:

- Architecting and implementing scalable BI frameworks and automated reporting solutions that enable consulting teams to deliver insights across multiple vendor engagements.
- Working closely with consultants to translate business requirements into technical solutions, while partnering with scientists to innovate on analytics approaches and operationalize insights
- Developing and maintaining automated data pipelines and core BI infrastructure using Amazon's analytics stack to process large-scale vendor data effectively
- Leading the technical roadmap for analytics capabilities, including designing reusable components and tools that allow consultants to independently customize and deploy solutions

About the team
In this position, you will be part of the JP Science and Data team, consisting of scientists, business intelligence engineers, data engineers, and machine learning engineers, collaborating with Product Managers and Software Developers worldwide. Our current projects touch on the areas of causal inference, representation learning, anomaly detection, forecasting, LLMs and more. As part of working on Paid Services, you will be exposed to all other projects the team works on: we believe that collaboration is paramount, and working in isolation does not lead to a happy team.

We place strong emphasis on continuous learning through internal mechanisms for our team members to keep on growing their expertise and keep up with the state of the art. Our goal is to be primary science team for vendor solutions in Amazon, worldwide.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 2+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab
- Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
