The Opportunity:
The Europe Business Impact Team (BIT) supports the growth of Oliver Wyman Europe by seamlessly enabling regional business development and management activities.
The Senior Business Impact Manager is a central role in the strategic and commercial development, operation and community building of the PC and M&A practices. The role effectively orchestrates practice staff (Partners, affiliated consultants, specialists) and support provided by the infrastructure functions of Oliver Wyman (Human Capital, Finance, Marketing, Knowledge Services, …). The role provides support to the Regional Practice Heads in managing the day-to-day affairs of the practice and is a go-to-person for all colleagues for practice-related topics.
In addition, the Senior Business Impact Manager role is a leadership position within the Business Impact Team working with the Head of Europe Business Impact Team and other Senior Business Impact Managers to develop the services provided by the function, and manage the team day-to-day.
Note: Although the initial deployment of this Business Impact Manager role will be in support of our Private Capital and M&A practices, this deployment may change in the future according to business need
Responsibilities:
- Develop and leverage trusted relationships with practice leadership and teams, as well as relevant infrastructure leaders and teams
- Act as ‘business partner’ and trusted advisor to leadership + broader Partner group
- Take responsibility for activities that are important to the long-term success and smooth day-to-day running of the practices, including where these have a high degree of complexity (not exhaustive)
- Strategic topics, including
Leading development and implementation of strategies for commercial, corporate, or people development
Development of a new practice or market
Leading periodic planning activities
Leveraging data and analyses to advise and drive decision making
Defining and managing business governance
- Commercial activities, including
Key account planning
High impact opportunity management
- Business operations, including
Preparation and facilitation of internal meetings
Tracking and follow up of action items
Management of business to-do list, prioritizing tasks and initiatives
Execution of people management processes such as objective setting cycles
Execution of compliance processes etc.
- Engagement and communication
- Manage or support ad-hoc initiatives according to the needs of the practice
- Engage in people development (within or beyond BIT), e.g. manage junior team members, coach colleagues, be a mentor etc.
- Identify and implement improvements including in strategic, commercial or operational processes, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in day-to-day activities.
- Show leadership within the Business Impact Team and beyond e.g. team coordination, L&D, events, best practice sharing and standardization, M&A, …
- Provide coverage where needed
Experience Required:
- The ideal candidate will possess 4-8 years of experience in professional services; experience at a leading management consulting firm highly desirable
- Experience dealing with confidential and business critical issues
Skills and Attributes:
- Seen as a leader within the BIT and the broader business, while still embodying a servant mentality – sought out for advice as trusted advisor by other colleagues, Partners or Principals
- Challenges and influences thinking and contributes to strategic decision making; acts as a thought partner to leadership
- Confident, senior stakeholder communication skills, with ability to tailor for different audiences and to influence others
- Deep understanding of Oliver Wyman and how the business works, as well as market factors and competitive dynamics
- Is a leader in sharing best practices across the BIT
- Maintains a diverse firm-wide network, has strong relationships with key stakeholders, and is able to activate network effectively to get things done
- High drive and self-motivation, ownership mentality
- Independently manages competing demands, ability to own complex processes
- Trusted team player, open and respectful communication, effectively collaborates with and directs colleagues within and beyond the BIT
- Proactively identifies opportunities across OW to deliver impact, acts as a change agent
- An inclusive leader advocating for equality, diversity and inclusion
- Role model for self-improvement and coach/mentor for others to build their skills and learning
- Bonus: Understands the dynamics of private capital or corporate mergers and acquisitions.
Technical skills
- Quantitative skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (in particular Excel and PowerPoint)
- Strong academic credentials, excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Further languages helpful, but not required
