About the role
We seek a highly proactive individual to lead, manage and implement the £24M Q-BIOMED business development strategy, working with the Directors, Management Committee and Advisory Board for this major UK national programme.
The Senior Business Development Manager role is part of the Q-BIOMED Strategic Operations Team and requires close collaboration with the Senior Hub Manager and Senior Communications Manager to maximize Hub impact. The main responsibilities include leading and implementing the £24M business development strategy, including the £3M Accelerator fund, identifying business opportunities, engaging with clinical and industry partners, and representing the Hub to industry, policymakers, venture funds, and end-user stakeholders.
The postholder will proactively manage Hub IP, collaborate with technology transfer offices of academic partners, support licensing, industry partnerships, spin-outs, and secure translational funding. The role involves travel to partners, events, and external stakeholders. It is based at the London Centre for Nanotechnology and the Faculty of Engineering Science at UCL, reporting to Professor Morton Q-BIOMED (Co-Director) and the Vice-Dean for Enterprise, UCL Faculty of Engineering Science. Funding is for five years until November.
About you
Applicants should have a postgraduate qualification in science or equivalent professional experience. They should have a track record in higher education roles involving research, business development, and budget responsibility. Experience with enabling technologies relevant to quantum and disease diagnosis or interventions is essential.
Demonstrable experience in addressing technical and business challenges of bringing new technologies to market and building industry-research partnerships is required.
Outstanding interpersonal, influencing skills, and confidence to liaise with individuals at all levels of seniority are essential. The role demands the ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and collaborate across diverse contexts.
What we offer
The Grade 9 appointment offers a salary of £66,000 - £72,000 per annum, including £4,000 London Allowance, reflecting the seniority and experience.
