Renfrewshire Council are looking to recruit a fully experienced Senior Building Surveyor to join our busy and dynamic Support Services team. This exciting opportunity offers the chance to contribute to the council’s life cycle capital investment programmes and be central to the councils Hard Facilities Management Service.

You will assist in the development and implementation of the councils reactive and planned maintenance building contracts, and you will provide Building Surveying expertise across a diverse range of properties (non-housing).

Reporting to the Lead Facilities Manager, you will need to be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, engaging with various stakeholders, and provide professional advice, information and guidance on building surveying and the built environment in general.

The main duties of the post will include:

  • Carrying out comprehensive building condition surveys and inspections within, schools, offices, leisure and other related council facilities.
  • Preparing professional reports to help drive capital life cycle investment programmes ensuring legislation and best value is achieved.
  • Identifying work packages and provide cost estimates as directed by the client.
  • Being responsible for the compiling tender documents and overseeing the procurement of various planned & reactive works and small capital works.
  • Managing and oversee various compliance, planned and reactive maintenance contracts, ensuring effective financial control.
  • Being fully responsible and manage all building maintenance and repair activities within a defined group of properties.
  • Project managing small refurbishment projects within varying building types.
  • Providing expert advice on building regulations, health and safety standards and sustainability practices.
  • Working with both in house and external consultants, assist and provide guidance on, new and refurbishment construction projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

The post will contribute to the councils’ strategic objectives including significant investment within the learning estate. It is essential that you have measurable experience in building surveying within education, leisure and commercial properties. You will be an effective communicator and be comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels. You will provide a positive influence on the overall FM service and contribute fully to ensure business and strategic objectives are achieved.

A Degree or other recognised, relevant qualification in Building Surveying or Construction and post qualifying experience within the construction industry delivering the full range of professional duties consistent with qualification and position is essential.

You must be fully experienced in carrying out building fabric condition surveys to non-housing properties, have experience of managing repairs/compliance planned maintenance contracts (JCT/SBCC - also production of and issuing same) and experience of delivering small projects on time and within budget.

It is essential you have previous experience of using relevant IT packages including AutoCAD and have knowledge of Health and Safety & Equality Act legislation, all aspects of facilities management and awareness of current CDM Regulations.

A full driving Licence and use of own transport.is required for this role.
