AtkinsRéalis is recruiting a Senior Building Surveyor to deliver a full suite of Building Surveying duties within a Bristol team. The role offers varied projects across sectors, senior client relationship responsibilities and opportunities for career development in a forward-looking organisation.

The role requires Chartered status, strong technical knowledge, and experience mentoring colleagues, with a focus on profitability and business development. Travel and leadership duties are included.

Qualifications

• BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying or equivalent.
• Chartered status essential/highly desirable.
• Strong technical surveying knowledge and significant building surveying experience.
• Experience managing clients with profitability and commercial awareness.
• Experience mentoring, training and coaching team members.
• Experience managing workloads and projects.
• Drafting technical documents including client requirements and drawings.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and statutory compliance.
• Specialist skills: Dilapidations, Party Wall, Fire Risk, Access Assessments.
• Excellent time management and punctuality.
• Prepared to travel as required.
• Strong IT skills; able to produce/edit/format documents.
• Ability in AutoCAD and NBS; RevIt would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Work across multiple projects in different sectors delivering refurbishment, improvement and modernisation.
• Undertake feasibility studies, produce specifications, obtain estimates, approvals and administer contracts.
• Apply standard building contracts such as JCT and NEC.
• Provide building surveying professional services and supervise junior staff.
• Mentor and train Building Surveyors and support APC trainees.
• Develop new business opportunities including bids and proposals.
• Carry out surveys, inspections, schedules and regional schemes management.
• Support senior managers with day-to-day activities.

Overview

AtkinsRéalis have a vacancy for a Senior Building Surveyor to work in a multi-disciplinary environment to deliver a full suite of Building Surveying duties. The role is based within our growing Bristol building surveying team, where you'll also be working alongside our multidisciplinary design and consultancy team in our Buildings and Places Business. We can offer extremely varied and interesting work with a number of high-profile public and private sector clients.

This role has excellent prospects for an individual who enjoys working collaboratively within a vibrant team, and who has experience in managing client relationships and enjoys variety across all areas of Building Surveying, and who will provide a first‑class service to our clients.

As well as technical competence, we are looking for a Building Surveyor who has strong commercial awareness and who can inspire clients and mentor junior colleagues with their client relationship and communication skills.

This position would be an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Building Surveyor with post qualification experience, to develop their career within a forward‑thinking organisation.

Your role

• Working across several projects in different sectors, providing a range of refurbishment, improvement and modernisation projects.

• Undertaking feasibility studies, producing specifications, obtaining estimates, obtaining statutory approvals and administering contracts for refurbishment projects.

• Using and applying standard forms of building contract, such as JCT and NEC.

• Knowledge and application of building surveying professional services.

• Qualified NEC supervisor or willingness to undertake the qualification at AtkinsRéalis.

• Mentoring and training Building Surveyors and providing Supervisor support to Junior.

• Surveyors on the RICS APC programme.

• Understanding the principles of quality, safety and the environment in asset surveys, design and management of projects and portfolios.

• Supporting the senior managers in their day‑to‑day activities.

• Line managing of junior Building Surveying staff.

• Carrying out surveys, inspections, schedules, provide professional services and managing regional schemes.

• Development of new business opportunities including preparation and submission of bids.

About you

• A BSc. (Hons) in Building Surveying or a similar RICS accredited degree.

• Chartered status essential/highly desirable.

• Sound technical surveying knowledge and significant building surveying experience.

• Experience managing clients with a strong understanding of profitability, business development and sound commercial awareness.

• Experience in mentoring, training and coaching team members.

• Experience managing workloads and projects.

• Sound knowledge drafting technical documents, including clients' requirements, asset reviews, feasibility studies, specifications and drawings.

• Full understanding of Health and Safety requirements and Statutory Compliance.

• Specific Technical Skillsets to meet specialist Professional Building Surveying service requirements EG Dilapidations, Party Wall, Fire Risk, Access Assessments.

• Excellent time management, punctuality and commitment to getting the job done.

• Prepared to travel as required.

• Strong IT skills, Word and Excel as a minimum. Candidates should be able to produce, edit and format documents.

• Ability in the use of AutoCAD and NBS, and experience Revit would be an advantage.
