Job summary

Bruntwood SciTech describes a Senior Building Surveyor role based in Manchester. You will oversee delivery of all works within a defined portfolio, using deep expertise to solve complex problems and support the growth of the tech and science sectors.

You will mentor teams, drive asset management and sustainable building initiatives, and work with cross-functional colleagues to meet ambitious targets across multiple regions.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of commercial property assets, building pathology and regulations.
  • Experience delivering SCMP fabric and M&E projects, Cat A & Cat B refurbishments from a surveying perspective.
  • Ability to mentor and provide subject matter expertise across processes and approaches.
  • Capability to deliver against the business unit plan and to communicate performance targets.
  • Proven ability to build relationships, influence, negotiate and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Commitment to sustainability and to driving smart building technology initiatives.
  • Solid knowledge of high level statutory compliance (CDM, Fire, Asbestos, Mees Regulations).

Responsibilities

  • Drive scheme direction from a Building Consultancy perspective.
  • Coordinate fabric/infrastructure projects with the portfolio team to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Apply deep project management skills to select delivery routes for various project types (Capital, P&L, SCMP).
  • Engage with key partnerships and supplier relationships to ensure delivery success.
  • Oversee delivery, risk, and performance for the Building Consultancy team within a portfolio.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to understand business needs and priorities for a given portfolio.
  • Support development of asset management plans from a Building Consultancy viewpoint.
  • Implement portfolio strategic works in line with asset plans and deliver to a high standard.

The role of the Senior Building Surveyor is to use your subject matter expertise and creative thinking to drive successful delivery of all works activity you are involved in within a specific portfolio. You'll take a long term approach to the management of portfolio building assets, solve complex problems and work with your wider team to achieve their ambitious goals.

You'll be based at our head office based in the heart of Manchester City Centre - Union on Albert Square. With some travel when necessary across Leeds, Liverpool and Birmingham.

What we're looking for:
  • You'll have a comprehensive understanding of commercial property, in terms of the physical asset, building pathology and remediation, building regulations, as well as asset planning and delivery. Using that knowledge to advise and consult collaboratively
  • You'll have sound experience of projects in the following areas; SCMP fabric and M&E projects, Cat A & Cat B refurbishments and know what's involved from a surveying perspective
  • You'll be comfortable mentoring and be a subject matter expert, having comprehensive knowledge of different processes and approaches with deep technical and detailed knowledge
  • You'll deliver against the business unit plan, communicate performance targets for area and drive best possible experience for customers colleagues and stakeholders
  • You'll build trusted key relationships internally and externally, advise, influence, and negotiate to drive works collaboratively and manages conflicting priorities whilst building on our brand reputation
  • You'll innovate to drive operational performance, use knowledge, data or insight to solve complex problems and lead change projects for own area
  • You'll be passionate about sustainability and hold a deep understanding of our strategy and the challenges around sustainability in commercial buildings, and you'll drive forward solutions to
What you'll be doing:
  • Drive scheme direction and assessment from a Building Consultancy perspective
  • Engage with portfolio team colleagues on bringing forward fabric/infrastructure projects for delivery to a high quality standard, in line with business expectations.
  • Use deep project and technical management skills to select delivery routes and deliver on behalf of the Building Consultancy team for a range of different project types including Capital, P&L and SCMP whilst taking a commercial, creative and innovative approach for specific regions.
  • Engage with key business critical partnerships and supplier relationships
  • Manage overall delivery, manage risk, develop and be responsible for project specific performance of the Building Consultancy team for a set portfolio
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to understand their business needs and priorities from a Building Consultancy perspective for a set portfolio
  • Support the development of asset management plans from a Building Consultancy perspective
  • Implement the delivery of the portfolio strategic works/projects in line with asset plans, to a high standard for a set portfolio.
  • Manage projects from inception to completion using your subject matter expertise ensuring high quality and efficient progress in line with stakeholder requirements
  • Manage project handover from delivery to operations post practical completion as and when required and make sure all snagging is closed out by the delivery teams
  • Make sure we deliver compliance with company policies and practices
  • Implement asbestos management, licence for alterations and dilapidations making sure they are delivered effectively and in a timely manner.
