Job summary

ICW Group are seeking a Principal Building Inspector for the Southern Region. You will provide technical leadership across diverse projects and help develop regional inspection teams, coordinating surveyors, managers and developers to deliver high standards of compliance.

You will coach Building Surveyors and Trainees, mentor staff through RBI registration, and ensure quality, consistency and excellence in Building Regulations and warranty matters while maintaining strong client relationships.

Qualifications

• Chartered membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CABE or CIOB.
• Registered Building Inspector at Level 2F or working towards Level 2F registration.
• Significant experience of plan assessment and inspection of residential, mixed-use and commercial developments.
• Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills, with a passion for developing others.
• Excellent knowledge of Building Regulations, technical warranty standards and associated legislation.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Strong IT skills and experience using a range of software applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and mentor Building Surveyors, Assistants and Trainees, conducting regular 1 to 1 meetings, and supporting their professional development and progression through the RBI registration process.
• Support the coordination and development of regional inspection teams, promoting consistency, quality and compliance across all activities.
• Carry out inspections of residential, mixed-use and commercial developments, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, associated legislation and ICW Technical Standards.
• Act as a key technical contact on complex Building Regulation and warranty matters, providing expert guidance and support to clients and colleagues.
• Work collaboratively with management teams across the Group, helping to drive standardisation, continuous improvement and a one-team approach.
• Build strong relationships with developers, builders and clients, delivering a responsive, professional and solution-focused service.
• Ensure robust quality and compliance standards are maintained, supporting internal procedures, regulatory requirements and audit expectations.
• Manage your workload effectively while supporting others, ensuring service levels, quality standards and business objectives are achieved.
