Job description

Overview: In this role, you will help our clients improve their buildings’ performance, delivering a wide variety of commercial, industrial, and residential projects. You will work as part of a team primarily focused on building performance modelling/analysis using advanced building simulation software. The successful candidate will have a strong background and proficiency in Building Performance Engineering and good technical competencies. A detailed understanding of HVAC modelling is essential for this role. Excellent written and verbal communication of technical issues to technical and non-technical professionals will be key to success in the role.

Responsibilities include:

1. Building Design Optimization through detailed building performance modelling and analysis using DesignBuilder/Energy Plus simulation software.
2. Building performance modelling for rating systems such as LEED and BREEAM.
3. Thermal Comfort Analysis and Overheating Risk Assessments (e.g. CIBSE TM59).
4. CIBSE TM54 / NABERS modelling.
5. Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) for building carbon (operational and embodied carbon calculations).
6. Building Heating and Cooling load calculations.
7. Liaising with clients, consultants, and contractors.
8. Writing technical reports (e.g. relating to any of the above analysis).
9. Writing energy or sustainability reports.
10. Managing and co-ordinating multiple projects.

Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering (building services, mechanical, or similar).
2. Minimum of 3 years professional experience in Building Performance Modelling (DesignBuilder experience will be a distinct advantage but is not essential) or 3+ years mechanical (HVAC) design experience with some building performance modelling.
3. Ability to understand and interpret design drawings and construction documents, including M&E system designs, layouts, schematics, specifications, sequence of operation documents, and controls schematics.
4. Excellent HVAC systems knowledge.
5. Basic knowledge of navigating BIM software such as AutoCAD and Revit.
6. Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).

Desirable skills:

1. Proficiency in DesignBuilder.
2. Experience in LEED Energy Modelling.
3. Qualification in Energy Management, e.g. CEM or CMVP.
4. On-site experience commissioning or testing HVAC systems.
5. Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS).
6. Familiarity with ASHRAE and CIBSE guides on HVAC design and energy efficiency.
7. Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
