Location: This role provides remote and flexible working as well as working within the Council Offices, subject to business need.

Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Maldon District Council at a time when building safety is at the forefront of legislative change and authorities are structuring their services to deliver maximum community reassurance. To join our highly professional and successful Building Control section you will be a qualified, experienced Registered Building Inspector class 2A or higher. You should also be a good communicator with a forward-thinking enthusiastic attitude, highly motivated, innovative and customer orientated.

About this role

As part of a small team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring operational compliance with statutory regulations, legislation, professional codes of conduct, health and safety requirements and adherence to council policies. You will be able to work with proven skills and competency to manage your own workload and ability to prioritise whilst maintaining the required standards.

Ability to travel for on-site visits in and around the Maldon District is essential. Applicants must have access to a vehicle and a valid driving licence.

Duties are varied and will include:

  1. Keeping up to date with changes in legislation.
  2. Liaising with architects, agents, contractors, and builders as required.
  3. Conducting plans checks and onsite inspections for compliance.
  4. Being an effective communicator, possessing developed IT skills, a good attention to detail, with an ability to organise and prioritise your workload.
  5. Knowledge and experience of the Building Act 1984, The Building Safety Act 2022, The Building Regulations 2010 as amended and allied legislation.
  6. Having a recognised qualification in the building control field and being a member of a professional association or working towards full membership.
  7. Holding a minimum registration with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) of a 2A (Domestic) Registered Building Inspector.
  8. Having extensive and demonstrable building control experience and being able to work unsupervised within your registration class and with supervision outside of this.
