Southwark Council is seeking an experienced leader to serve as Assistant Director of Building Control. You will steer a high-performing service, ensuring compliance with building regulations while guiding major regeneration projects and innovations that shape the borough’s future.

You will manage a team of specialists, collaborate with regulators and developers, and uphold the highest professional standards to deliver safe, sustainable buildings for residents and businesses alike.

Qualifications

• Qualification as a Class 4 Building Control Inspector and a Class 3 Building Control Inspector.
• Extensive knowledge of building control legislation, regulations, standards and guidance.
• Significant experience managing complex building control projects and services.
• Proven experience leading strategic change, innovation and service improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for Southwark's building control function, ensuring compliance with building regulations and delivering a customer-focused service.
• Lead a team of experienced professionals across residential, commercial developments and regeneration schemes.
• Drive service improvement, digital innovation and operational excellence.
• Manage service performance, resources, budgets and business planning.
• Provide expert advice on complex and sensitive building control issues.
