Our client is currently seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer for a contract position. You will play a crucial role in the inspection and condition assessment of various highway structures, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and footbridges. Your expertise will support the preparation of design solutions for the repair, strengthening, or replacement of these structures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the inspection and condition assessment of highway structures, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and footbridges
- Support the preparation of design solutions for repair, strengthening, or replacement of structures in line with current design standards and health and safety requirements
- Contribute to the development of feasibility studies, scheme designs, detailed designs, and contract documentation
- Carry out site visits and surveys to gather information, monitor construction progress, and ensure compliance with design specifications and health and safety standards
- Support the asset management of highway structures, ensuring accurate records are maintained and updated within relevant databases and systems (e.g., HADDMS)
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, inspection records, and assessment documentation to support project delivery and statutory compliance
- Liaise with internal teams, external consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure efficient project coordination and delivery
- Ensure that work complies with industry regulations, design codes (e.g., DMRB, Eurocodes), and Council policies
Job Requirements:
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or working towards it via a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE, IStructE)
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent relevant qualification)
- Experienced in bridge engineering, particularly in inspections, assessments, or design
- Familiarity with relevant standards and codes of practice, including DMRB, CDM Regulations, and Eurocodes
- Proficiency in using engineering software and tools such as AutoCAD, structural analysis packages, and Microsoft Office
- Strong report-writing and communication skills
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel locally for site visits and inspections
