Working for us, you’ll be delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions that enhance life and protect our shared future.

Our people are driven by a set of strong values, based on safety, insight and collaboration.

The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Bridge Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team with shared office space in Sheffield, attending office when necessary, and remaining days working remotely. We welcome applications from Senior Bridge Engineers across this region.

Our Amey Consulting Structures Team is expanding and involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland, with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.

Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, awarded in 2020 and 2022 respectively. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. Additionally, we have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and contractors nationwide.

These long-term contracts offer excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all career stages to be involved in some of Scotland’s most exciting engineering projects.

The role

As a Senior Bridge Engineer, you will be involved in every project stage from inception to completion.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing technically sound engineering solutions.
  • Managing and supporting the technical delivery of projects from start to finish.
  • Preparing designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation to meet quality, cost, and schedule criteria.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior staff.
  • Contributing to their professional development and your own.
  • Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending meetings, and responding to queries.
  • Working within a technical team, managing your activities within projects and portfolios.
  • Contributing to bids and work-winning activities.
  • Driving health and safety practices.
  • Applying sustainability practices in engineering.
  • Managing multi-discipline infrastructure projects effectively.
  • Communicating with stakeholders clearly and managing risks.

What you will bring to us:

  • A team-oriented mindset with innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Experience and expertise in structures, likely from an Assistant Engineer role or similar.
  • Ability to produce compliant, technically sound solutions (DMRB, Eurocodes, CIRIA, etc.).
  • Ownership of deliverables, with quality checking skills.
  • Proficiency with relevant software (e.g., LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Understanding of CDM regulations and risk assessment.
  • Experience in hazard and risk management on projects.
  • Knowledge of interface management and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Working towards Chartered status with ICE or IStructE, or similar professional recognition.
  • A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
