Senior Bookkeeper

REED Practice are seeking a Senior Bookkeeper to join our client based in North London. This role is ideal for someone with extensive experience in managing a diverse client portfolio, covering a wide range of industries. The successful candidate will be responsible for bookkeeping, VAT returns, and overseeing junior staff, ensuring high-quality financial reporting and compliance.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Manage a client portfolio, performing bookkeeping and preparing VAT returns for both sole traders and incorporated entities.
  • Utilise various software programs, predominantly Xero, to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Review the work of junior staff and outsourced teams to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to client queries.
  • Ensure that trial balances are complete and accurate in preparation for transfer to the accounts department.
  • Handle VAT registration and deregistration processes efficiently.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of VAT schemes and engage in some aspects of VAT planning.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • At least 8 years of work experience in a practice environment.
  • Proficient in bookkeeping software such as Xero, Sage, and QuickBooks.
  • Extensive experience with VAT, including dealing with HMRC, understanding different VAT schemes, and some exposure to VAT planning.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of handling client interactions with professionalism.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior staff, ensuring quality control and compliance.
