Job Description:

White Horse Employment is proud to be exclusively partnered with Alvis Contracting, a long-established, family-run agricultural business near Bristol, as they look to appoint a Senior Bookkeeper.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-respected rural business at the heart of the West Country’s agricultural community. As Senior Bookkeeper, you’ll take full responsibility for the day-to-day finance operations of the business, reporting directly to the General Manager and supporting the senior leadership team with clear, actionable financial reporting.

This is a hands-on, varied role with a particular focus on credit control and reducing aged debt, as well as delivering timely and accurate reporting to drive improvements in operational efficiency. You’ll be a key point of contact for finance across the business, helping shape decisions through reliable data and proactive financial management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take full ownership of the finance function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions
  • Lead proactive credit control efforts, reducing aged debt through clear processes and consistent follow-up
  • Produce monthly management accounts, P&L statements, and detailed sales and debtor analysis reports with commentary
  • Prepare and maintain cashflow forecasts and VAT returns, and manage prepayments, accruals, and depreciation journals
  • Reconcile trial balance and balance sheet accounts, and prepare year-end management packs for external auditors
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and manage biannual stock takes with appropriate adjustments
  • Support the senior leadership team with meaningful financial reporting and insights that enable operational improvements and efficiency gains
  • Ensure customer and supplier records are accurate and up to date, and support GDPR compliance
  • Ensure integrity of data in Sage accounting software and act as the go-to person for finance queries across the business

What We’re Looking For:

  • An experienced Bookkeeper or QBE finance professional with a strong focus on credit control and debt management
  • Background in an SME or agricultural/rural business is desirable
  • Proficiency in Sage (or similar systems) and strong Excel/reporting skills
  • A self-motivated and highly organised professional with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident communicator able to present financial data clearly to non-finance colleagues
  • A team-oriented individual with a continuous improvement mindset and a passion for driving better financial outcomes

This is a great opportunity to join a values driven, community based organisation where finance is at the centre of its future success. If you’re looking for a role where your contribution will be visible, valued, and make a tangible difference, we’d love to hear from you.

Any CVs that are sent across to Lye Cross Farm will be taken ownership by White Horse Employment.
