Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day client bookkeeping for varied clients.
• Process sales and purchase ledgers, bank reconciliations, and TB.
• Prepare and submit VAT and CIS returns, with MTD compliance.
• Produce monthly/quarterly management accounts and reconciliations.
• Onboard clients to cloud software and support digital migration.
• Ensure deadlines and filing requirements are met accurately.
• Mentor/train junior staff and apprentices.

Senior Bookkeeper Job Overview

• Manage day-to-day client bookkeeping across a varied portfolio including sole traders, limited companies, and partnerships.
• Complete accurate sales and purchase ledger processing, bank reconciliations, and trial balance preparation.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns and CIS returns, ensuring full compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD) guidelines.
• Produce monthly and quarterly management accounts along with supporting reconciliation schedules.
• Onboard new clients onto cloud software and assist with digital migration and process improvements.
• Ensure all client bookkeeping files are completed accurately and statutory filing deadlines are consistently met.
• Assist in the training, development, and day-to-day queries of junior members of staff and apprentices.

Senior Bookkeeper Job Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of proven bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice is essential.
• AAT Level 3/4 or ICB qualification (or equivalent) is highly desirable, though candidates qualified by experience will also be considered.
• Advanced proficiency in major cloud accounting platforms (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) and receipt-processing tools (e.g., Dext, Hubdoc).
• Solid understanding of UK VAT regulations, CIS schemes, and Making Tax Digital compliance.
• Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, busy team.
• Commitment to onsite working in the Leeds office.
