Overview
We are working with a fantastic client of ours based in Sussex who are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper.
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours / 5 days per week, Mon to Fri. 09.00 - 17.30 with lunch taken 13.00 - 14.00. We may consider alternative work patterns. Due to current resource levels this will need to be a minimum of 30 hours / 4 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Bookkeeping duties for a range of clients including direct communication and effective relationship management.
- Using a variety of software including Xero, Quickbooks, FlickThru, IRIS and Outlook.
- Preparing and filing VAT returns, personal tax returns, partnership tax returns and companies\' tax returns, ensuring MTD compliance where applicable.
- Assisting with digital migration or training in cloud accounting software for clients.
- Maintaining proper accounting standards, recording all communication with clients on the appropriate systems within the firm.
- Reconciling purchase ledgers, bank accounts, and balance sheet control accounts.
- Assisting the leadership team with managing junior bookkeepers and their workload.
Skills & Qualifications
- 3-5 relevant bookkeeping experience in a UK accountancy practice.
- Previous experience of managing direct reports is essential.
- AAT Qualified (or part-qualified) or equivalent professional credentials preferred.
- Proficient with cloud accounting platforms such as Xero or QuickBooks.
- Excellent attention to detail, highly organised, and consistently able to meet deadlines.
- Strong Excel skills are essential - pivot tables and data analysis may be required.
- The ability to confidently build relationships with both clients and internal teams.
- Previous experience of training clients on online accountancy software would be advantageous.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills required for client interaction, team coordination, and reporting.
- Well organised with the ability to work accurately under pressure and manage work deadlines.
- High level of integrity and ethical approach to work.
