Job summary

RecruitAbility Ltd in Bishop's Stortford is seeking a Senior Bookkeeper to manage a portfolio of clients, deliver bookkeeping, VAT returns and Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements, and support junior colleagues. The role combines office work with client premises visits.

You'll coordinate onboarding, prepare management accounts and year-end balances, and uphold high standards of client service with clear communication.

Qualifications

• ICB/AAT qualification or equivalent is required.
• Five years of experience in UK accountancy practice or industry.
• Proficiency with cloud accounting software: Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and FreeAgent.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of clients, delivering bookkeeping, VAT returns and Making Tax Digital requirements.
• Prepare management accounts and year-end trial balances.
• Process client payroll, including PAYE, pensions and CIS requirements.
• Build client relationships, answer queries and explain financial information clearly.
• Support new client onboarding and ensure a smooth handover of records.
• Guide junior colleagues and contribute to improvements in working processes.
• Visit client premises and attend occasional local networking events.

Are you a qualified bookkeeper who enjoys looking after clients and taking ownership of your work? RecruitAbility is recruiting for an accountancy practice where you\'ll manage your own client portfolio, build relationships and support junior colleagues. Working in the office and at client premises, you\'ll have varied responsibilities and the opportunity to contribute ideas to the team.

The role of Senior Bookkeeper:

• Manage a portfolio of clients, delivering bookkeeping, VAT returns and Making Tax Digital requirements.
• Prepare management accounts and year-end trial balances.
• Process client payroll, including PAYE, pensions and Construction Industry Scheme requirements.
• Build client relationships, answering queries and explaining financial information clearly.
• Support new client onboarding and help ensure an organised handover of records.
• Guide junior colleagues and contribute to improvements in working processes.
• Visit client premises and attend occasional local business networking events.

To be considered for the role of Senior Bookkeeper:

• Hold an ICB, AAT or equivalent qualification.
• Have at least five years' relevant experience within a UK accountancy practice or industry.
• Be confident using cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and FreeAgent.
• Have strong communication skills and a helpful, professional approach to clients.
• Be organised, reliable and comfortable managing your workload independently.
• Enjoy sharing your knowledge and supporting junior colleagues.
• Be comfortable working at client premises and attending occasional networking events.
