A leading healthcare organization in London is seeking an experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to work in Haematology and Blood Transfusion departments. Candidates must have a BSc and HCPC registration, alongside extensive experience in an accredited lab. An opportunity exists for a Full Time, HCPC Registered Senior Biomedical Scientist wishing to work within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion departments at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex Hospitals. The post is for a Senior BMS with Haematology and Blood Transfusion experience. Requirements for the post include an MSc degree. Applicants will need a minimum of 5 years experience as a state registered BMS. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic professional in the North West London area with good travel links into several mainline London stations. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all shifts to support the 24/7 service needs, as allocated by the Head of Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratories. The candidate will contribute to providing a professional and technical laboratory service, working effectively as part of the managerial team, managing daily routine laboratory duties, and working independently to maintain efficient service.
The Laboratory services the Haematology and Blood Transfusion pathology needs of a large GP catchment area, including Maternity, Haematology Oncology, and large surgical cases, such as St Marks Colorectal surgery. There is also a large company Haemoglobinopathy referral centre involved in Neonatal screening, with diverse Blood Film Morphology. The Blood Transfusion laboratory has recently installed new Grifols analysers on both sites and works alongside Trust Transfusion Practitioners, Lead BT Clinicians, and the Hospital Transfusion Team to promote Patient Blood Management. Main duties include rotation between Haematology and Blood Transfusion across both sites, covering the 24/7 service, including night shifts. Senior duties include competency training, referral results, clinician queries, maintaining analysers, checking incompletes, and ensuring proper paperwork. Responsibilities also include incident investigation, audits, change control validations, and preparation for UKAS/MHRA accreditation. The candidate will manage daily departmental duties, including staff and stock management, analyser function, trending, temperature monitoring, IQC review, and EQA submission. The candidate is also expected to support BMS/AP staff on the bench when necessary.

Overall Job Purpose:
As a Senior Biomedical Scientist (BMS) in Haematology, the post holder is responsible for tasks required for delivering a fit-for-purpose medical laboratory service, analyzing and reporting Clinical Haematology results. The department offers various analytical tests, and the Blood Transfusion department prepares and supplies blood components.
The post-holder will work with the Chief BMS and Lab Manager to provide Haematology services across Northwick Park NHS Trust and Central Middlesex Hospital on behalf of The Doctors Laboratory.

The Senior BMS also deputizes for the Chief BMS, supervises staff, manages workflow, and ensures quality standards. Additional duties include staff recruitment, assigning duties, prioritizing workflow, and managing operational issues. The role involves adhering to security arrangements, participating in quality processes, and ongoing operational management.
