We have an exciting opportunity for 2 Senior Bioinformatics Scientists to join our team in Cambridge and contribute to developing bioinformatic tools and software enabling precision medicine.

The Role:

The Bioinformatics & DRAGEN HW SW department at Illumina seeks a bioinformatics scientist experienced in algorithm development, statistical modeling, and software development.

The team creates software and workflows for analyzing genetic and epigenetic data, integrating community tools, and developing novel methods and algorithms for deployment locally and on Illumina’s cloud platform.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate can work across teams, translating challenges into bioinformatics solutions. A strong background in algorithm development, data analysis, machine learning, statistics, and software development is essential.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop algorithms for analyzing various data types for translational research and clinical applications.
  • Apply statistics, machine learning, and computational methods to analyze large-scale genetic and epigenetic data.
  • Design and develop software to solve analytical challenges and automate analysis workflows.
  • Other duties may be assigned based on business needs.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Machine Learning, or related field plus 1-3 years of postdoctoral or industry experience.
  • Experience in algorithm development, statistical modeling, generative AI, and software development.
  • Background in precision medicine and clinical genetics research or product development.
  • Deep understanding of statistics and bioinformatics algorithms.
  • Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills.
  • Programming proficiency in Python and/or R; C, C++, C#, Java skills are a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
