Senior Bioinformatics Engineer

Location: Cambridge

The Senior Bioinformatics Engineer will be responsible for developing efficient and high-quality bioinformatic pipelines and data science software supporting the design, data processing, analysis, and reporting across Lonza R&D departments. They will be placed in the Bioinformatics & Data Science group and closely work with multi-disciplinary teams of bioinformaticians, lab scientists, biochemists, and bioprocess engineers.

The Senior Bioinformatics Engineer will further drive and implement innovative solutions enhancing Lonza’s capabilities in data science and statistics, with the goal to improve biomanufacturing of Biologics molecules. The role is also expected to manage collaborations and act as a mentor for more junior team members.

What you’ll do:

  1. Develop and maintain bioinformatic pipelines to facilitate complex data analysis and integration.
  2. Support onboarding and development of data analysis tools used by multidisciplinary teams across Lonza.
  3. Drive digital innovation in biomanufacturing by enhancing data science, bioinformatics, and statistical capabilities.
  4. Manage internal and external collaborations with academic and commercial partners.
  5. Lead, mentor, and train junior team members.

What we’re looking for:

  1. PhD in Bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, computer science, or statistics.
  2. Excellent knowledge of Nextflow, the UNIX command line, and either R or Python.
  3. Proficient in implementing automated and scalable processing pipelines for complex biological tasks.
  4. Experienced in developing bioinformatic tools facilitating experimental design and analyses.
  5. General expertise in analyzing and interpreting omics and other biological data sets using statistical and visualization approaches.
  6. Skilled in communicating intricate bioinformatics projects to stakeholders and multi-disciplinary audiences.
  7. Good organizational skills, including time management, ability to set priorities, and adhere to deadlines.
  8. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Desired:

  1. Experience in machine learning.
  2. Knowledge of tools in the Azure cloud.
