Senior Bioinformatics Engineer - Pipeline Automation & Tool Development

The Senior Bioinformatics Engineer - Pipeline Automation & Tool Development will develop efficient, high-quality bioinformatics pipelines and data science software to support design, data processing, analysis, and reporting within Lonza's R&D departments. This role is part of the Bioinformatics & Data Science group, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams including bioinformaticians, lab scientists, biochemists, and bioprocess engineers.

The position also involves driving innovative solutions to enhance Lonza's data science and statistical capabilities, aiming to improve biomanufacturing of biologics. Additionally, the role includes managing collaborations and mentoring junior team members.

What you'll do:

1. Develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for complex data analysis and integration.
2. Support onboarding and development of data analysis tools used by multidisciplinary teams.
3. Drive digital innovation in biomanufacturing through enhanced data science, bioinformatics, and statistical methods.
4. Manage collaborations with academic and commercial partners.
5. Lead, mentor, and train junior team members.

What we're looking for:

1. PhD with at least 2 years of industry experience or MSc with 5+ years of relevant experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related fields.
2. Hands-on experience developing and implementing Nextflow pipelines in production.
3. Proficiency with Docker, Git, UNIX command line, R or Python, and testing frameworks.
4. At least 2 years experience developing GUI-based bioinformatics tools for experimental design and analysis.
5. Ability to communicate complex bioinformatics concepts effectively to stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
6. Expertise in analyzing and interpreting omics and biological datasets using statistical and visualization techniques.
7. Strong organizational skills, including time management and prioritization.
8. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
