Job summary

Southern Water is seeking a Senior BI Engineer to lead Databricks and Power BI initiatives, focused on Gold-layer data products, semantic models and scalable analytics across the organisation. You will work in a domain-focused agile squad with Data Modellers and Data Engineers, contributing to robust data solutions and governance.

This hybrid role offers two days in the office weekly at Durrington (Worthing) or Falmer (Brighton), with a hands-on mentoring approach and opportunities to shape data

Qualifications

• 5+ years in BI engineering or related data roles.
• Strong Databricks experience (SQL, Python, PySpark).
• Experience delivering Gold-layer data products.
• Strong Power BI semantic modeling and performance optimization.
• Relational and dimensional data modelling skills.
• Experience with ETL/ELT, Delta Lake, data lake tech.
• Knowledge of data governance, metadata, security/privacy.
• Experience with source control and automated deployments.
• Strong troubleshooting and cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to translate KPI definitions into technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain Gold-layer data products in Databricks.
• Develop pipelines for Gold-layer data products.
• Create reusable semantic and dimensional models.
• Develop and optimize Power BI models, reports, dashboards.
• Translate KPI definitions into technical logic.
• Verify data availability and quality throughout development.
• Apply governance, security, privacy principles.
• Establish source control and deployment practices.
• Collaborate with Data Modellers, Engineers and stakeholders.
• Provide mentoring to BI Engineers.
