Job Description:
This role is a permanent full-time position. It is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work from home and on-site at the office. We seek an ambitious candidate passionate about their discipline, eager to develop their career within a dynamic and rewarding business.
As a Senior (Bat) Ecologist at RSK Ireland, you will be involved in delivering field surveys, assessments, tendering, report writing, and project management for various projects across Ireland.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee medium to large projects and tenders from start to finish.
- Write reports, analyze data, coordinate ecological surveys and mitigation, and produce bat survey reports.
- Conduct bat surveys (PRAs of buildings, structures, trees, emergence/re-entry surveys, activity transects, static detectors) and manage bat mitigation activities (licensing, supervision, monitoring).
- Handle project finances, resource allocation, manage staff and subconsultants, liaise with clients and authorities, ensure risk and quality assurance, and deliver projects on time with effective communication.
- Possess good knowledge of ecology, relevant legislation, survey techniques, and protected species mitigation.
- Design and execute ecological impact assessments and protected species surveys, including bat surveys.
- Produce accurate and professional technical reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Biodiversity Chapters, Ecological Impact Assessments, and Biodiversity Management Plans.
- Review ecological reports prepared by colleagues.
- Assist with business development, including quotations and maintaining client relationships.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure quality project delivery.
- Provide technical advice to clients.
- Perform fieldwork, including out-of-hours surveys and travel.
- Maintain good communication within the ecology team and mentor junior staff.
- Conduct desk-based research and stay updated with industry guidelines and science developments.
Person Specification:
- Extensive experience in bat survey and mitigation, capable of leading on licensed mitigation projects.
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience or proven similar experience.
- Valid UK/Irish driving license and access to a vehicle.
- Adherence to CIEEM’s Code of Professional Conduct.
- Membership of CIEEM at an appropriate level.
- Team-oriented, proactive, and able to mentor colleagues.
- Experience with various bat survey types and report writing.
- Familiarity with sound analysis equipment, night vision aids, and data interpretation.
- Possession of personal species-specific licenses (bats, newts, badgers) is desirable.
- Excellent technical writing skills for producing detailed reports and licenses.
- Experience in developing ecological and biodiversity enhancement plans is desirable.
